THE SECOND NYWIMN CONFERENCE

New York Women in Mathematics Network

May 2nd, 2008
Topics Interdisciplinary Research in Logic, Group Theory, and Theoretical Computer Science
The Second NYWIMN Conference will be held May 2nd, 2008 at the New York City College of Technology (The City University of New York). This conference is organized by Delaram Kahrobaei and Victoria Gitman with the generous support of the National Science Foundation, New York City College of Technology, and the City Tech Foundation.

Invited speakers will give talks on topics including combinational, geometric and computational group theory, computational complexity, finite automata theory, set theory, and model theory. There will be a poster session for recent PhD's and graduate student research and a poster session for undergraduate students presenting the historical achievements of women mathematicians. The conference will conclude with a panel of leading women mathematicians discussing success strategies for young women working in mathematics.

The central aim of the conference is the establishment of informal networks between women mathematicians to assist their professional success and promote interdisciplinary research. The chosen topics concentrate on the deep interconnections discovered in the previous century between theoretical mathematics, algorithmic processes, and formalizing notions of information. Research in these relatively young areas holds the promise of answers that will determine how theoretical mathematics and the world of modern technology will reinforce each in the near future. All interested members of the mathematical community are invited to attend.
