Technology Teacher Education Program

The Technology Teacher Education Program at City Tech is accredited by the National Council for Accredidation of Teacher Education (NCATE)and nationally recognized by the International Technology Education Association-Council on Technology Teacher Education (ITEA-CTTE)

The degree program in Technology Teacher Education prepares individuals to obtain New York State certification as K-12 technology teachers. Technology teacher education content core courses focus on the broad technological systems of communication, construction, manufacturing, transportation and energy all of which are offered in the program. As part of the communications systems sequence, the program collaborates with other departments in the School of Technology and Design to offer our students an array of courses that prepare them to effectively use and manage information technology (IT) in the schools. Thus, the Technology Teacher Education program produces graduates who are well equipped to deal with the challenges of using technology to raise the achievement levels of all students in New York City and beyond. If you are curious about how things work; like working with your hands and building things; and want a career with broad job opportunities in teaching technology from kindergarten through high school or in industry, technology education at City Tech is the program for you.

Career and Technical Teacher Education Program

The Career and Technical Teacher Education program prepares individuals to become certified as teachers of career and technical education (CTE) subjects in grades 7-12 in CTE and comprehensive high schools. The program leads to the Initial and Professional Certificates valid for teaching specific CTE subjects within the career fields of family and consumer sciences (e.g., culinary arts, textile design); health occupations (e.g., dental hygiene, dental lab technology, nursing, vision care technology), technical occupations (e.g., architectural, electronics, graphic arts, computer technology), and trade occupations (e.g., aircraft maintenance, electrical installation, computer repairs, and vehicle maintenance) in secondary schools. The content core courses for specialization in these technical and career areas are usually acquired through other programs and before students enroll in the teacher education program. Students are also expected to satisfy a full-time work experience requirement prior to or during enrollment in the teacher education program.
