Topic: "Eva Zeisel -- Artist/Designer of Utilitarian Objects"
On invitation Professor Mason gave a lecture on "Eva Zeisel--Artist/Designer of Utilitarian Objects" which fitted perfectly with the class curriculum studies this semester!
The class had studied objects designed by artists from the nineteen fifties to the present, viewed the Museum of Modern Art's Design Collection, and looked at contemporary design published in leading periodicals. They saw how artists think outside the traditional mediums, "outside the box."
Professor Mason's in-depth research on the subject and personal experience with Eva Zeisel's work and studio processes enhanced the students' knowledge; they were excited to learn what it was like to be an artist/designer at that particular time.
Listening to a privileged personal perspective of a famous and respected artist of that period like Eva Zeisel from a professional artist/educator was fascinating. Also, he clarified and described the economic situation for women artists of that period. Additionally, he explained to the class how artists now feel free to work in several styles, unlike the earlier times when they were limited to a prevailing style.
