  ELECTRONIC INK (II): Principles

• e-inks are printed onto thin sheets of plastic containing microcircuits that form a matrix of "pixels"

• electrical signals can be transmitted wirelessly to the pages, or

• the "spine" of the reading device activates the pages

• substrate printed with e-ink is "digital reusable paper" on which the content can be changed at will

• displays, etc., printed with e-ink draw very little electricity and need power only when changing the content
