PROFESSOR PHILIP RUSSO COURSES I TEACH
FALL 2002 - SPRING 2003
FALL- 2002
DL-107 Lecture NON-METALLIC DENTAL MATERIALS
DL-110/ DL110L Lab / Lecture TOOTH MORPHOLOGYPrerequisites: Eligibility in DR092 or CUNY Certification in Reading and Writing.
- This course introduces the student to non-metallic dental materials that they will be using in the Dental Laboratory. The inherent characteristics, uses, and limitations of dental laboratory materials will be discussed. The student will learn the proper techniques of manipulating the various materials in uncomplicated exercises. This ground work in familiarization with dental materials will facilitate the development of psychomotor skills in subsequent dental laboratory technology courses. This courses also introduces the student to the procedures of infection control and proper safety precautions in the Dental Laboratory.
Dl-314 Lab CERAMICS
This course covers the design and fabrication of individual cerama-metal substructures, the design and fabrication of multiple unit ceramic substructures, investing and casting of precious and non-precious metals and soldering of precious and non-precious substructures as well as porcelain application, firing, ceramic contouring, staining and completing individual and multiple unit bridges and crowns.
Prerequisites: Completion of all second level courses or permission of chair.
SPRING - 2003
DL-412 FIXED PROSTHODONTICS LABORATORY PRACTICUM
This practicum is designed to provide practical applications and procedures learned in the basic and specialized courses previously studied. The student will be provided with clinical dental impressions with simulated written prescriptions as written by the Dentist. Every attempt will be made to provide a simulated practical laboratory setting. Students are responsible for fabricating fixed oral prosthetic restorations as per written dental prescriptions. Course content will include but not limited to light cured restorative materials, single and multi-unit bridgework as well as post-core fabrication. The emphasis will be on achieving clinically acceptable prostheses that will approximate the quality, accuracy and timeliness that would be expected in a commercial dental laboratory.
Prerequisites: DL-212
DL-412 FIXED PROSTHODONTIC LECTURE PRACTICUM
The focus of this course is designed to achieve a theoretical understanding of the functional and cosmetic applications in the dental laboratory. Emphasis will be on technical and prosthetic system procedures The student will study the various designs and techniques necessary for successful fixed prosthetic fabrication. A field trip to a commercial dental laboratory under the supervision of the instructor is also required for this course.
Prerequisite: DL-212
DL-212 FIXED PROSTHODONTICS LECTURE
The focus of this course is to enhance the understanding of laboratory procedures as they relate, but not limited to, model-work, waxing procedures, investing techniques, casting methods, finishing and polishing of fixed-removable prosthetic cases. The student will apply the theoretical concepts from lecture class into the laboratory.
Prerequisite: DL-115
